Spalding is Medalist as B-W Men’s Golf Team 

Finishes Third at Barclay Invitational

GRANVILLE, OHIO – Junior Stephen Spalding (Stow/Walsh Jesuit) was the medalist as the Baldwin-Wallace College men’s golf team finished third of 10 teams today (Sunday, April 8, 2012 annual Barclay Invitational hosted by Denison University.  Spalding fired a two-day total of 146, including a second round tying low-round of 72.

B-W totaled a two-round total of 618 on the par-71 and 6,590-yard Granville Country Club layout.  Ohio Wesleyan overcame a three stroke first round deficit to win the team title with a score of 612.  Denison, who was the first round leader, finished second with a two-day total of 615.
In addition to Spalding for the Yellow Jackets, freshman Adam Sanders (Fairview Park/ Royalton/Padua) Fairview) tied for ninth as he shot 77 in the second round for a tournament total of 155.  Senior Ricky Jaskolski (North Royalton/Padua Franciscan) finished with a two-round total of 157, including a 76 in the final round. Sophomore Augie Ward (Medina/Walsh Jesuit) and senior Matt Warren (Copley) each fired final rounds of 82 to finish with two-day totals of 162 and 164 respectively.

Playing as individuals, freshman Cody Lyon (Wadsworth/Medina Highland) finished with a tournament total of 163 while senior Kyle Lewis (Riverside, Calif./Riverside Poly) had a two-day total of 166.

B-W will next compete in the Ohio Athletic Conference Spring Invitational hosted by Otterbein University on Sunday and Monday, April 15-16 at the Little Turtle Golf Club in Westerville.

Golf Improves on Day Two of Barclay Invitational 

Granville, Ohio – The Oberlin College golf team shaved off 12 strokes from their day one total at the Ted Barclay Invitational, posting a second-round team score of 381. For the tournament the Yeomen carded in a 774 (393-381) to place 10th overall.

Rookie Nathan Gonzales reduced his opening-round mark of 89 by four as he completed the 6,559 yard course in 85 swings on Sunday. For the tournament he finished tied for 49th place with a score of 174 (89-85). Gonzales is the first Yeomen golfer to have back-to-back rounds in the 80’s in over five years.

Senior Charlie Landsman did his part in lowering the team score, taking five shots off his total from Saturday. After opening up with a 98, Landsman checked in with a 93 on Sunday to finish the event in 57th place with a two-round total of 191.

Senior Jake Panka showed the biggest improvement of any Yeomen golfer as he needed 97 swings to complete his round today after taking 107 on Saturday. His two-round accumulation of 204 was good for 60th place.

Christopher Stott completed the Oberlin placers in 61st place with a score of 209 (99-110). Zachary Boozer also competed for the Yeomen and finished with 216 (110-106) strokes. His total from today counted towards Oberlin’s team score.

Ohio Wesleyan entered today three shots back of Denison, but rallied to take down the host Big Red 612 (307-305) to 615 (304-311). Stephen Spalding of Baldwin-Wallace College claimed medalist honors as he finished four over par at 146 (74-72).

Oberlin returns to action next weekend at the Strimer Memorial Invitational, which is being hosted by Ohio Wesleyan University.
