Two B-W Spring Student/Athletes

Named OAC Athletes of the Week

BEREA, OHIO -- Two Baldwin-Wallace College spring Student/Athletes, junior men’s golfer Stephen Spalding (Stow/Walsh Jesuit) and senior women’s tennis player Jenny Greene (Worthington /Thomas Worthington) have been named as Ohio Athletic Conference Athletes-of-the-Week today (Monday, April 9, 2012). This marks the third weekly honor for Spalding and the second for Greene.

Spalding earned his weekly honor after capturing Medalist honors at last weekend’s Ted Barclay Invitational hosted by Denison University.  He fired rounds of 74 and a tournament tying low round of 72 on the second day. The 72 also marked his best round of the year and is just one stroke off his career-best round of 71.  After four tournaments this spring, Spalding leads the team with a 75.83 stroke average.

Greene took home her honor after going 2-0 in singles and 2-0 in doubles action in a pair of matches last week.  She won her match against the College Wooster in straight sets by scores of 6-0 and 6-2 at number two and then posted a straight set victory against Mount Union  at number one singles by scores of 6-4 and 6-4.  In doubles action, Greene teamed up with junior Danielle Rueger (Ashland) to win both of their matches at number two doubles by identical scores of 8-3.  For the season, she has an overall record of 8-10 and is 6-13 in doubles action.

The men’s golf team is back in action on Sunday and Monday, April 15-16 when it travels to Westerville to compete in the two-day OAC Spring Invitational hosted by Otterbein University at the Little Turtle Golf Club.

The women’s tennis team will travel to Bexley for an OAC match with Capital University on Wednesday, April 11 at 3:30 p.m.   The team will then host NCAA Division II Tiffin University in a non-conference match on Thursday, April 12 on the Pop Collins Tennis Courts at 3:30 p.m.
