Storm Football Road Show Heads to Mentor Tuesday Night for FREE practice scrimmage

PAINESVILLE, OHIO – The Lake Erie College football team will take its preseason camp "on the road" Tuesday night, Aug. 21, with an intra-squad scrimmage at Mentor High School's Jerome T. Osborne Sr. (JTO) Stadium. The practice session is free, open to the public and will begin at 6 p.m.

"We're very excited to bring our program out into the community with this free event and provide a unique experience for our players and the fans," said sixth-year head coach Mark McNellie. "With us opening the season at night on a turf field, this night serves as a dress rehearsal in preparation for that game. We bring in officials, go through our regular pregame routine and then do a lot of scrimmaging with the 1's vs. 1's, 2's vs. 2's, etc."

The Storm opens the 2012 season on Thursday night, Aug. 30, at Gannon University in Erie, Pa.

Moving the annual preseason night scrimmage was necessitated by the track resurfacing project at Jack Britt Memorial Stadium in Painesville. Lake Erie's grass practice fields, where the team is holding a majority of its practices this month due to the project, does not have lights. However, McNellie is excited about the opportunity it presents, at least for one night.

"Prior to the installation of the ProGrass artificial surface at Britt Stadium, we held our spring practice sessions and our spring game in neighboring communities like Chardon and Perry," he said. "The fans there really welcomed and supported our team while we were there. I think this event will provide some of the folks in Mentor who may not know much about our program a great opportunity to see what we are about."

JTO Stadium is located at 8620 Munson Road in Mentor. For directions, click here.
