CLEVELAND (University District) – Case Western Reserve University head football coach Greg Debeljak has announced the Spartans’ 2011 recruiting class. The 29 incoming freshmen represent nine different states from around the nation.

“My staff and I are pleased with our group of incoming players,” said Debeljak. “Not only do we feel like we have added quality depth to positions of need, we also feel there are a number of guys who can come in and compete for significant playing time this season. 

We are excited to get to work with our newcomers as well as our returnees later this summer.”

The Spartans (8-2 in 2010) have won three of the last four University Athletic Association Championships with three NCAA Playoff appearances (2007-09). CWRU’s run includes a 38-game regular season winning streak that extended from 2006-10.

Academic Team

CVC Announces Spring Postseason Honors  
Four Bison Seniors athletes were honored on the All-Academic team: Melanie Small (softball), William Wolkoff (track), Andrew Somogyi (baseball) and Alex Roth (tennis). To qualify for this CVC Honor, the athlete must be a senior, at least a two-year letter winner in their sport and have a 3.25 GPA or better.

 Other student athletes receiving spring athletic honors are: Junior, Ryan Moss and senior Josh Schwarz made the first team CVC Metro Division Baseball team while sophomores Zach Smith and Max Siegel were named second team. In Track and Field, Junior Julia Friedman earned Metro Division co-MVP honors at the CVC meet. While, Chris Lardie, Isidro Cora, Mark Blackwell, and Ari Sobel were 1st Team All-Conference.

Beachwood Student/Athletic Notes

 The following girls also received 1st Team All-Conference honors in Track & Field:  Arielle Ginsberg, Hannah Richardson, Sam Tall, Gabrielle Perryman, Olivia Mayfield, Traci Milliner, Kyndal Wilson. Junior softball player, Carly Wohlfeiler was named to the 2nd team Sammie Jacobs and Hanna Rubenstein earned honorable mentions for softball while junior Dylan Heiser and the doubles team of Jacob Tepper and Roth (both seniors) earned honorable mentions for tennis.

Middle School Track Team Finishes 3rd at State 

This weekend the Beachwood Middle School Track team competed in the Ohio Middle School State Championships, held at Groveport Madison High School. The Girls Team finished 3rd in the State as a team, the highest finish in school history.

 The Girls team was led by Hannah Kahn, who placed 2nd in the 100 Meter Dash and she helped lead the 4x200 Meter Relay team consisting of Valisha Watkins, Morgan Daniel, Emilykate Hopson-Boyd and Shanice James to a 4th Place finish. 

Also, finishing in the top ten in the State was our 4x400 Meter Relay team (S. James, M. Daniel, E. Hopson-Boyd, H. Kahn) which finished 5th. 

While Morgan Daniel finished in 7th Place in the 400 Meter Dash and Emilykate Hopson-Boyd finished 10th in the 800 Meter Run. Leading the way for the Boys team is long distance standout, Brad Tramer who finished 3rd in the 1600 Meter Run and 5th in the 800 Meter Run. 

The 4x100 Meter Relay team (Jordan Williams/Wynn Hines, Maishe Dailey and Nate Hamilton) finished 10th and the 4x400 Meter Relay team of Maishe Dailey, Adam Moses, Nate Hamilton and Brad Tramer finished in 10th Place.
Volleyball Meeting is June 2nd 

If you are interested in playing volleyball this upcoming Fall we would like to invite you and your parents to a Volleyball meeting on Thursday, June 2nd at 7 pm in the Beachwood High School Auditorium.

This meeting will be for all girls entering 7th grade - 12th grade. If you are interested in playing this upcoming school year, it is highly encouraged that you and your parents attend this team meeting. If you are unable to attend the June 2nd meeting there will be a makeup meeting on Tuesday June 7th at 7 pm in the BHS cafeteria for you and your parents.
