Hayden Names Captains for 2012

Oberlin, Ohio – Oberlin College Head Women’s Soccer Coach Kristen Hayden has announced that rising seniors Hannah Combeand Angie Garcia will serve as team captains for the upcoming 2012 season.

Combe, a native of Granville, Ohio, has played in every game over the last three seasons. She has seven career goals and has dished out eight assists along the way. A 2011 All-NCAC Honorable-Mention selection at midfield, Combe is poised to have her best season yet for the Yeowomen.

Garcia played in 18 games last season and made 14 starts. A versatile athlete who can play anywhere on the field, Garcia brings multiple dimensions to the pitch game in and game out.

“Over the past three years both of these players have displayed the leadership skills we expect from our captains,” Coach Hayden said. “I fully believe they will do a great job in guiding our team in a positive direction this fall.”

The Yeowomen will begin training in the middle of August in preparation for their season-opening match on August 31 at St. Vincent College.

Mount Union's Connor Mathis Named ABCA All-American; Sixth All-American in School History
APPLETON, Wis. -- Mount Union sophomore Connor Mathis (Akron/Firestone) was an All-America First Team selection by the American Baseball Coaches Association.
Connor Mathis
Mathis is just the sixth All-American in Mount Union baseball history and the first since Rick Mullinix earned the honor in 2001.

Mathis, an All-Ohio Athletic Conference and All-Mideast Region first team selection, started 40 games in right field and was the conference's batting champion as he led the OAC in batting average (.450), hits (67) and runs batted in (56). He led the team with 14 stolen bases and had just 10 strikeouts in 149 at-bats as he was also named the OAC All-Tournament Team.

Off the field, he is an Exercise Science major with a 3.67 grade point average that earned Academic All-OAC honors.
He helped lead Mount Union to a school record for wins going 28-15 overall and their second place finish in the OAC was the best regular season finish in the conference since 1993.
