Lake Ridge, St. Joseph tie, 2-2, in the "battle of academies"
NORTH RIDGEVILLE-- St Joseph Academy visited Lake Ridge Academy Saturday for Lake Ridge's Homecoming and the two teams battled to a 2-2 tie.  The game was delayed nearly an hour because the preceding boys' contest between LRA and Vermilion High started late.

St. Joe scored first, at the 37:59 mark on a put-in by Nicole Micolcic off a corner kick from Ali DeCrane.

The Lions pressed until the 22:08 mark when Sydney Clark took a pass from Sam Potoczak and pushed the ball past Jaguar goalie Sarah Reinhold to tie the score.

The rest of the half was a defensive struggle until St. Joseph threw the ball in from their end of the field with 17 seconds left.  A long shot on Lake Ridge goalie Sharday Baines rolled loose and there was Micolcic waiting to put the ball away just as the half ended, with St. Joseph suddenly and dramatically leading 2-1.

The second half was played primarily in St. Joseph's end of the field as Lake Ridge attacked relentlessly.  The Lions scored at 29:38 after a corner kick by Potoczak ended up in front of the Jaguar goal with Clark in control of the ball.  Her kick to the left corner eluded Reinhold to tie the game.

Several minutes later, a foul against St. Joe allowed Potoczak to attempt a penalty kick, but Reinhold smothered her shot aimed at the right corner.

A St. Joseph penalty kick with five minutes left was successful but subsequently disallowed, and the game remained tied.
With under two minutes left, a Lake Ridge shot to the left of goal was cleared by Reinhold to midfield where Clark lurked.  She intercepted the ball and kicked the ball to the right of goal but Reinhold recovered in time to make a one-handed block and keep the game tied.
Reinhold finished with 5 saves, but it seemed as though all five were crucial as Lake Ridge really applied the pressure in the second half.
Sharday Baines started in goal for the Lions and had five saves in her half, as did second half replacement Kyndall Wellons.

The Jaguars out shot the Royals, 20-3. Mikolcic scored both Jaguar goals.

Today (Monday), Lake Ridge, now 4-2-1, hosts Trinity High while St. Joseph, 3-4-1, travels to Amherst, a team on an impressive five game undefeated string over teams such as Olmsted Falls, Magnificat and Avon.

Schmitz returned the favor early in the second half, as Klekota finished his cross with a brilliant header.

Strongsville responded minutes later on a Jared Abston goal, but it was not enough, as the Comet defense held strong. Eric Armstong and
