Oberlin Soccer

ntinued from A Page

However, a sluggish stretch during the latter part of the first half really hurt the Yeomen and allowed the Crusaders to gain control of the game. A misplay in front of the goal between Wyatt Hayman and Zach Lipshultz allowed Daniel McCarthy to come away with an easy look at the net for the Crusaders first score in the 30th minute.

Just over one minute later, Oberlin would find itself down 2-1 as a nice offensive sequence by Capital would result in another goal. The Crusaders would add a third tally in the 80th minute.

Capital, who is one of the top teams in the region, outshot the Yeomen 17-12 – including an 11 to 4 edge in shots on goal - and triggered five corner kicks compared to just two for Oberlin.

Lipshultz did a sound job in keeping Oberlin in the game as he came away with eight saves.

The Yeomen will conclude their three-game homestand on Tuesday night when nearby Baldwin-Wallace College comes to town for a 7 p.m. showdown.
