Keeping Tabs On Grads' Activities

Norm Weber, (MA, Mass Communications '93), has started a Web-based newspaper, called Student! Athlete-Cleveland, geared toward those who play sports in an educational setting.

“There are enough media outlets for professional sports,” Weber said. “This is a niche and a community that needs to be served better than it is.”

After graduating, (his thesis: "The Death of the Los Angeles
Herald Examiner"), Weber worked on Gary Locke's successful campaign for King County Executive in Seattle, and was appointed Locke's liaison to boards and commissions

He also was a stringer for the now-defunct Seattle Post-Inte/ligencer.

Weber later moved to Sarasota, Fla., to serve as communications director for East- West Ambassadors, a nonprofit that sent student athletes to foreign countries.

After East-West folded, Weber returned to Cleveland, his hometown, obtained an MBA from Ohio's Baldwin-Wallace College and wrote about high school and college sports for the Plain Dealer, its sister chain Sun Newspapers, its online companion Cleveland.com, and other publications. He also was an adjunct professor at four local colleges, teaching English, communicationsjournalism, speech, business and sports administration.

While attending Northridge in the '90s, Weber covered high school and college sports for the Valley Edition of the Los Angeles Times and (CSUN sports information.

Weber lives in Cleveland and plans to fran- chise his Student! Athlete sites.
